Building glazing with a graded etched-film pattern applied across full-height panes

Architectural graphics production study · 2025

Daylight Screen

A glass study in etched film and a graded pattern that gives a working floor privacy without taking its daylight.

34Panes mapped and cut individually
3Pattern densities across the height
1Continuous run across all mullions
70Percent light transmission retained

01 · The challenge

What the piece had to solve.

An open floor needs privacy at seated height and a visible manifestation on full-height glazing, without turning the elevation opaque or losing the daylight the floor depends on.

02 · The response

How production answered the brief.

The pattern is graded: dense where it screens sightlines, opening out above and below. Every pane was measured individually rather than assumed identical, and the film was cut per pane so the pattern runs continuously across mullions.

03 · The outcome

What the finished piece achieved.

Sightlines are broken at desk height while the floor keeps its light. The pattern reads as one continuous screen across the elevation instead of restarting at each pane.

Every pane surveyed; nothing taken from the drawing alone.

  2. 02Proof

Three densities sampled on site glass, at the real light level.

  3. 03Production

Film cut and weeded per pane, sequenced by elevation.

  4. 04Install

Applied out of hours, inspected against the light.
